The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the classic and most comfortable Kilimanjaro trail, famous for its well-established paths and hut accommodations. This 6-day trek is ideal for trekkers who prefer a gentle, steady ascent, combined with excellent scenery, high summit success rates, and a more structured trekking experience.
Starting on the southern slopes, the route passes through lush rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert before reaching the summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Unlike other routes, climbers stay in mountain huts rather than camping, making it perfect for those seeking comfort alongside adventure.
The summit is achieved via a midnight climb from Kibo Hut, reaching Uhuru Peak for sunrise. The descent follows the same trail through alpine desert and rainforest, completing a journey that balances challenge, comfort, and breathtaking panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and surrounding landscapes.

After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate for registration. Begin your trek through lush rainforest filled with blue monkeys and vibrant birdlife. Stop for a picnic lunch midway before continuing to Mandara Hut. Explore nearby Maundi Crater for scenic views before dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, ascend through moorland terrain with open views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. The vegetation shifts from rainforest to heather and volcanic rock. Arrive at Horombo Hut in time for dinner and overnight stay.

Spend an extra day at Horombo to aid acclimatization. After breakfast, hike towards Mawenzi Ridge (4,400 m) for stunning panoramic views, then descend back to the hut for a hot lunch. Rest and prepare for the next day’s trek.

Trek gradually through alpine desert, crossing the Saddle, a lunar-like landscape between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon. Rest early and prepare for the midnight summit push.

Ascend steadily toward Barafu Camp, the base camp for your final summit push. The trail is rocky and barren, offering magnificent views of Mawenzi Peak. Arrive early to rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare your gear for the midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Descend through moorland and rainforest zones, watching the vegetation change as you lose altitude. Upon reaching Marangu Gate, sign out and receive your summit certificate. Our driver will transfer you back to Moshi for a celebratory dinner and relaxation.
